Chapter 12

"Georgia Reynolds. She was the driver of the other
car."
"I've never met her before, not that I know of. Why do you
ask?"
"I'll explain it to you later. Right now we're going to run
some tests on you, then you can visit with your family and we'll
give you a full and complete update on everything that's been
going on. Sound good?"
"Sounds fine. When can I eat? I'm starving." Doctor
Green smiled and exchanged amused glances with Jane. "We'll
take care of that too."
"Good. But no Jell-O; That stuff is nasty."
Several hours later Nick was wheeled back into the room. His
family spent a good while with him, then left so that both Doctor
Green and Doctor Lynn could explain to him all that had been
going on. They told him as detailed of a story as possible. He
was shocked and bewildered.
"Are you trying to tell me that I had some type of
out-of-body experience?"
"Not exactly. But if so, you would be the one to tell
us."
"Sorry, nothing like that happened." He slowly turned
his head and saw the profile of a young girl next to him.
"Who is that?" he asked.
"That's Georgia." Nick tried to get a good look at her,
but there were too many machines obstructing his view. "Is
she dying?"
Doctor Lynn frowned and nodded her head. "It appears so.
There really isn't much else we can do. No one has even been in
to see her. It's almost as if she has no one."
Nick stared at the sleeping girl and felt an overwhelming feeling
of pity and sorrow for her. "I hope she doesn't die. No one
should have to die alone."
"So you two have never met before?"
Nick shook his head. The name doesn't sound familiar. But I've
met and seen a lot of people. I doubt I would recognize her even
if I had met her before."
"It's so precarious. It appeared as if you two were in some
dream state, like both of you were having an out of body
experience together."
Nick chuckled. "If that's true then at least I was getting
some type of action while in my sleep ridden state." The two
doctors left, then excused themselves to check on other patients.
Everything fell silent. His family had gone home a while ago and
now, at six in the evening, he was all by himself. Well, with
Georgia, of course. He took the time to observe all the machines
and tubes that he was hooked up to. With a great amount of
effort, Nick slowly moved into an upright position. He grabbed a
hold onto the bed and slowly stood. He somehow managed to make
his way over to Georgia's bedside where he got a good look at her
face. Out of nowhere flashes came to him.
Sunflowers. White sundress. Golf. Rain. Crying. Pain. Loneliness.
It was too much. He collapsed to the ground and heard a voice
echoing through his head as he drifted into a deep sleep.
"Pray for me Nick. Pray for me."
